Is it ok for me to unplug my external rugged drive when my notebook is turned stale?


Is it ok for me to unplug my external rugged drive when my notebook is turned stale?

You can unplug any USB device as long as you stop it first. If you jump to the system tray (located by the clock) you will see a USB icon (you may hold to put your mouse over the < to extend the bar). Double click on the icon and find the drive that the harddrive is. You after click stop and you will see a note that the drive can very soon be removed safely.

Yes. As long as the power on the drive itself is stale, you can even unplug it while your PC is running.

If it's usb, it is always better to 'stop' the device. Usually by the clock near is an icon to 'safely remove hardware'. Then power down to unplug.



But powering down the workstation sould be good plenty to unplug it.
You should disconnect the drive first, by turning it off from the USB deity in the tray. Right-click and select stop, later you can safely unplug teh drive. Unplugging it while the somputer is bad could posibbly corrupt files or drivers on or for the drive.
