I be just wondering if here is anyway of mounting an external hard disk or pen drive on the desktop within windows xp. Much close to on linux or OSX. If you know a way next that would be brilliant. If not, i guess it can't be done.
Mounting USB drives on desktop?
No, you can't. The Windows UI is designed such that details of all your drives (be they complex drive, optical drive, external drive, tape drive, etc) are kept in My Computer so you couldn't get the icon to appear automatically on the desktop.
You could make shortcuts to consistent drives on the desktop of course, but that might not work if the drives contained by question aren't connected lastingly as the drive letters may swap around when you plug and unplug different devices.
I would entail more info of what you are trying to say, but if you close-fisted an external HDD, or Pin, then why? those are static sensitive Devices , it could destroy them, but you can buy and External one from any Computer stores or shopping places. but a pin drive those are meant to be inside the Computer.
