My 1Gb mp4 player is showing memory of 1 Mb when i am trying to format it. What should I do to correct it?

My 1Gb MP4 player is not channel and showing that it is required to be formatted. When I am trying to format it, its showing memory of only 1Mb. The scroll down is also not increasing the memory size. What cauld be wrong and How can I rectify my MP4 player?
