Memory Upgrade???

I own Dell Dimension 3000 with p4 2.8ghz processor and it have 2 dimm memory slot with 2 x 256mb pc2700 184 pin within each slot. I am planning to upgrade and be thinking if i could



1) put 1 x 1gb pc2700 184 pin memory in one slot and will the other slot empty



or

2) put 1 x 1gb pc2700 184 pin memory within one slot and put 1 x 256 MB pc2700 184 pin memory in the other slot.



Which route will boost my PC memory ?? Explain??

Let me if there is another way out.

Memory Upgrade???

The first one will increase performance for a time bit, but the second will dramatically increase the performance, because it give you 4 times the memmory you had to start near. Hope this helps you out.
The first pick is simpler since there is no hassle of parallel both RAMs.
PC 2700 is double data run into (DDR). DDR works best when paired with like amount of ram. ie if you want 1 see of ram use two 512 mb sticks of memory.
